Фиксация — процесс закрепления летучего вещества, то есть перевода его из летучего состояния в плотное либо жидкое.

Философская ртуть — соль, получаемая из Первоматерии посредством воздействия на неё Тайного огня.

Хальмоза — стекольная пена, окалина от расплавленного стекла.

Хаос — Первоматерия в сыром, необработанном состоянии.

Чёрный дракон — символ стадии нигредо; смерть, распад, гниение.

Эликсир — эликсир жизни, получаемый из Философского камня в порошкообразной форме; также жидкое масло, получаемое из металлов и растений и используемое в дальнейшем в терапевтических целях в гомеопатической дозировке.

Юпитер — олово.

Яйцо — обычно Философское яйцо, стеклянный сосуд, в котором происходит окончательная варка (кокция) философских субстанций.

Яйцо грифона — ещё одна аллюзия на стеклянный сосуд в форме яйца; грифон, полулев-полуорёл, символизирует соединение летучего и фиксированного начал в двойной природе ртути.

Aqua regia — царская водка; азотная кислота (aqua fortis) в сочетании с соляной кислотой (spiritus salis); носит такое название, поскольку растворяет золото. Была известна ещё арабским алхимикам. Глаубер приготовил её путём дистилляции обычной поваренной соли с азотной кислотой.

Aqua vitae — водка, спирт, разбавленный водой и сконцентрированный посредством одной или нескольких дистилляций.

Argent-vive — ртуть, живое серебро, или меркурий; серебро в «живой», или подвижной, форме.

Calx-vive — негашёная известь.

«Solve et coagula» — девиз, суммирующий основные процессы Великого Делания — растворение и сгущение. Плотная материя растворяется, а летучая сгущается.
